Knowledge, Languages, and Publishing (KLP)/ Graphic Design and Layout (GRA)
Within the Division of Information, Evidence and Research, the Knowledge, Languages and Publishing teams contribute to implementation of knowledge management for health systems development regionally and within WHO. The Graphic Design team is an essential part of this work, providing a core service function within the cycle of production of EMRO information products, especially support for governing bodies and other Regional Office publishing.

Purpose of the Position:
To provide graphic design of information products.

Organizational context:
The Technical Assistant/Graphics is a specialist in graphic design and use of all associated tools. He/she works under the direct supervision of the Technical Officer, Graphics, under the overall guidance of the Programme Manager, Editorial, Graphics and Publishing Support Programme/Coordinator, Knowledge Languages and Publishing.
Works with a high degree of independence in agreeing designs with clients.

Description of duties:
1. To design and lay out EMRO information products, including reports, technical and advocacy materials, posters and other promotional materials, and finalize for print and web, in consultation with technical units to determine needs.
2. To layout issues of EMHJ in collaboration and coordination with co-workers and concerned unit.
3. To carry out additional design tasks as assigned by supervisor, such as certificates, name tags, CD labels, name stands, banners.
4. To provide technical specifications for information products that will be designed externally and for printing.
5. To detect and solve technical problems that may arise during production.
Essential: Completion of secondary school education. Formal training on graphic design computer software packages.

Desirable: Degree or diploma in graphic design, typography, desktop publishing, fine art or other relevant field

Functional Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of design and layout principles, aesthetic and harmonious visual presentation and appropriate typographic choices and ability to apply WHO style.
- Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and adhere to tight deadlines.

IT Skills:
Extensive knowledge of professional graphic design software packages, essentially Adobe Creative Suite for Apple Mac and PC, and the ability to use such software.
At least 8 years of experience using computer and software for graphic design and layout of technical publications and advocacy materials.

Previous experience working in a UN agency or multi-national corporation.
Very good knowledge of English and Arabic. Knowledge of French is an asset.
