A sound, well managed, responsive and efficient Organization-wide Human Resources Management strategy and service delivery which support the work of WHO and its Member States, encompassing, but not limited to: HR Policy Development and Planning, Organizational Design and Job Classification, Talent Management (including Succession Planning, Recruitment, Career Development, Rotation and Mobility), Organizational Diversity, Conditions of Service, Compensation and Benefits, Staff Development and Learning, HR Legal Advisory Services, Administration of Justice, HR Administrative Review, Global Staff/Management relations, representation of WHO and influencing of inter-agency HR Common System initiatives, as well as the provision of global advisory services to management and staff.

Within the Human Resources Department (HRD), the Staff Health and Wellbeing Services (SHW) develops and implements health policies to protect and promote staff health and advises management on measures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment at all levels of WHO, as well as the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), the United Nations International Computing Centre (ICC) and the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). SHW provides preventive medical and psychosocial care, first aid and emergency care for staff and acts as medical adviser on staff insurance and disability matters.
Description of duties:
1. Manage medical and paramedical activities of SHW in collaboration with the other medical officer.
2. Proceed with medical examinations on employment, duty travel, sick leave, disability, compensation allocations and provide medical recommendations accordingly.
3. Design trainings and briefings, as well as provide medical guidance to promote health and education in the workplace.
4. Undertake administrative tasks in SHW: conduct medical analysis of reports and medical examinations conducted out of Geneva, and provide subsequent advice.
5. Advise administration in the layout and ergonomics of work stations.
6. Collate background for the presentation of cases to pension and compensation committees, providing expert advice when appropriate.
7. Make medical recommendations on special allowances requests (disabled child dependency allowance, special education grant for disabled children).
8. Collaborate with treating physicians in Geneva or outside HQ.
9. Any other duty required for the smooth operation of the service.
10. When necessary, replace other colleagues including the supervising medical officer to ensure the continuity and smooth operation of the Staff Health and Wellbeing Services.
Advanced university degree in Medicine.
Training in medicine.
Ability to interact with medical personnel and with staff of all organizations involved.
Ability to instil confidence.
Tact and absolute respect of medical confidentiality.
Computer literacy.

A minimum of seven years of clinical experience in general or internal medicine in private practice or in a hospital or institutional setting.
Must not have interrupted medical practice for more than one year.

Experience working with international organizations policies and practices an advantage.
Experience in travel medicine an asset.
Experience in first aid and emergency medicine an asset.
Expert knowledge of English or French with an intermediate knowledge of the other language.

USD 67611 at single rate
USD 72605 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 105.5 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
