HSI - HIV, Hepatitis, and STI
 
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
 To develop highly functional and multi-sectoral programmes that will provide support to Member States in their efforts to prevent and treat HIV, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections (STI) by guiding national strategies and policies towards increasing coverage of quality prevention, treatment and care; coordinating and leading efforts of partner agencies including civil society and people affected in order to achieve mutual goals; and ensuring effective surveillance, monitoring and evaluation and research to inform programme and service improvement.
Description of duties:
1. Provides technical assistance in reviewing protocols and programmatic support on surveillance and monitoring of HIV, Hepatitis and STI, population size estimation and data triangulation.
2. Provides support in the strengthening of health information systems relevant to HIV, hepatitis and STI including laboratory for surveillance.
3. Supports the linking of HIV drug resistance surveillance activities with the health sector's monitoring on HIV/AIDS interventions, mainly focusing on patient tracking system for management of HIV and antiretroviral therapy (ART).
4. Provides support in planning regional and national training activities relevant to prevention, surveillance, and monitoring of HIV, hepatitis and STI.
5. Provides support in setting up and adapting regional and national epidemiological databases and in collecting, compiling, and analyzing data on HIV, hepatitis and STI.
6. Prepares and submits technical and progress reports on HIV, hepatitis and STI activities at country and regional levels, in collaboration with WHO country offices and headquarters, interprets results, and provides advice to Member States on their respective surveillance protocols.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Advanced university degree in medicine, health sciences, social sciences or related field is essential. Postgraduate specialization in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, health sciences or its equivalent an advantage.
Skills:
- Sound knowledge of principles, practices, methodology and techniques in infectious disease surveillance, especially with knowledge and understanding of population size estimations, HIV, hepatitis and STI surveillance and programme monitoring.
- Skills in health situation analysis, modelling and projections, proposal development, project management and development of national capacity.
- Capacity to plan and conduct operational activities with political and technical elements;
- Ability to establish harmonious working relationships as part of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, and maintain a high standard of personal conduct;
- Ability to demonstrate gender equity and cultural appropriateness in the delivery of services to member States.
- Proficient in standard MS Office software applications.
- Presentation skills.

Experience:
Minimum of seven years of international experience in infectious disease surveillance, basic statistics, laboratory and/or medical sciences for HIV, hepatitis and/or STI. Experience in surveillance for HIV, hepatitis or STI and programme monitoring and evaluation is desirable.
Languages:
Written and spoken fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 67 611 at single rate
USD 72 605 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
