About two thirds of the 46 countries in the WHO Africa region are affected by 8 to 10 NTDs. The NTD Programme aims at strengthening the country level control of NTDs mainly lymphatic filariasis, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted helminthiasis, Onchocerciasis, human African Trypanosomiasis, Dracunculiasis, Leishmaniasis, leprosy, Buruli ulcer and yaws. The ambitious NTD programme targets adopted at RC 63 include the eradication of Guinea worm disease in all countries of the region by 2015, sustaining elimination of leprosy, and elimination of lymphatic filariasis (LF), onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis and blinding trachoma by 2020. The current pace of implementation of disease specific interventions will not permit the achievement of these NTD goals in Member States of the African Region
Description des fonctions
Under the direct supervision of the IST Coordinator and in close collaboration with the NTD Programme Manager, the incumbent will:
1.Brief country NTD programme teams on the Coordinated Mapping guide;
2.Support the NTD programme team to prepare or update their mapping plan and budget, propose a clear timeline for field surveys and mobilize required resources, including kits of diagnostic tests;
3.Supervise randomly some of the mapping survey teams during the field work;
4.Support timely mapping data capture and compilation, including the use of mobile device (m-health);
5.Review and analyse the compiled findings and results of mapping surveys
6.Support the National NTD programme to report on the mapping surveys and submit the report and results for review and validation to the PC-NTD review group;
7.Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Formation :
Essential: Master's level University degree in Medicine or in Epidemiology, Parasitology, Public Health.

Desirable: PhD
Compétences :
Competencies in mapping surveys;
Competences in planning, monitoring and evaluation and management of NTD programmes;
Skills in analysing information on epidemiology and diagnostic tests;
Networking and partnership-building skills with UN agencies and partners.

Computer skills - knowledge of word processing, mapping application, spread sheet and data analysis, browsing and information searching on Internet.

Expérience :
Essential: At least 7 years of relevant working experience in PC-NTDs with good understanding of key public health issues and priorities, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Desirable: Previous working experience in the area of epidemiology or parasitology with other UN Agencies (preferably WHO) or reputable NGO. Experience in mapping of PC-NTDs would be an asset.

Langues :
Excellent knowledge of French or English and a good working knowledge of the other. Working knowledge of Portuguese would be an asset.
