Within the Office of the Director-General (ODG), Department of Governing Bodies (GBS), the Office of Language Services (LNG) provides high-quality, timely and cost-effective translation and interpretation services to WHO's governing bodies and technical programmes in the six official languages, including translation for the who.int web site, so as to make health policy and technical documentation from WHO as accessible as possible. It also manages the graphics team and the word-processing centres for those languages.
Description of duties:
1. Proof-reads word-processed texts, checking the documents in Arabic/French for accuracy, including layout, referring to originals to verify presentation and clarity; cross-checking the corrections made as necessary. 2. Provides rapid and accurate word processing from recordings, manuscripts, rough-typed or hand-corrected texts, transcribing from recordings of conference proceedings, etc. and producing letters, tables, documents and reports paying particular attention to syntax, grammar, spelling, WHO phraseology, and medical terminology. 3. Participates in the training of new and temporary staff. 4. Acts as Assistant Head of shifts during conference periods, as required. 5. Replaces supervisor during conferences or leave absences or during periods of intense work pressure, as required. 6. Performs other related duties as required.
Completion of secondary school or its equivalent; completion of commercial/ secretarial course.
Training in typing (with diplomas) and word processing equipment; ability to type at the required speed and proofread texts.

At least three years' experience in word processing/typing with experience in proofreading. Experience in WHO or another UN agency to have the required knowledge of its procedures as related to the work.
Familiarity with medical and technical terminology. Experience in layout or desktop publishing.
WP Centre Arabic: Expert knowledge of Arabic and English.
WP Centre French: Expert knowledge of French.

WP Centre Arabic: Intermediate knowledge of French.
WP Centre French: Intermediate knowledge of English.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
CHF 68,611 at single rate
CHF 91,755 with primary dependants
