OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
UNITAID's mission aims to increase access to treatment for HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria for people in developing countries by leveraging price reductions of quality drugs and diagnostics, which currently are unaffordable for most developing countries, and to accelerate the pace at which they are made available.
Description of duties:
In this role, the Technical Officer, Cross-cutting Market Dynamics, will:
1. Provide technical support to draft, update, implement, monitor, and evaluate UNITAID's Strategy;
2. Provide technical advice to UNITAID staff, consultants, and external partners, as needed, to identify and develop new interventions across all disease and niche areas;
3. Provide content knowledge, as needed, to MD analysts for market assessment and impact estimates of potential, current, or past UNITAID interventions;
4. Facilitate strategic coordination and collaboration with external stakeholders, including global health organizations, industry, non-governmental organizations, academia, and national programs;
5. Draft and deliver reports, presentations, briefing notes, and other materials for the UNITAID's Executive Board, Strategy and Policy Committee, and Proposal Review Committee;
6. Draft and disseminate reports, lessons learned, and new analytic methods via satellites/symposia at International Conferences, reports, web-based materials (in collaboration with UNITAID Communications Team), and peer-reviewed publications;
7. Develop and maintain strong networks of experts and other global health stakeholders working in the areas of HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria;
8. For one market niche the incumbent will:
* Design and oversee efforts to draft, update, publish, and utilize UNITAID's landscape analyses (disease, technology, and market);
* Identify potential areas where UNITAID could intervene in markets to improve public health and potential partners to implement on UNITAID's behalf;
* Provide technical support for UNITAID's call for proposal processes;
* Project manage UNITAID's market dynamics projects in the market niche;
9. Perform any other activities required by the Coordinator of Market Dynamics.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:
Advanced university degree in pharmacy, medicine, public health, or related discipline.

Desirable:
Diploma or certificate in business, management, or related discipline.
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi-stakeholder projects.
- Strong content knowledge of how to apply market approaches to improve public health.
- Strong knowledge of market trends for commodities used to prevent, diagnose, and treat HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.
- Deep familiarity with key international organizations working on HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

Experience:
Essential:
At least 7 years of experience in improving access to commodities used to prevent, diagnose, and treat HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria. Documented experience designing and implementing access interventions that address intellectual property and quality barriers for medicines and diagnostics. Experience conducting and interpreting market analyses to quantify and address market issues. Direct experience building and managing access to medicines and diagnostics partnerships and coalitions among international global health Organizations or UN agencies.

Desirable:
Experience in the private sector pharmaceutical/diagnostics industry or private sector consultancy firm. Experience in the United Nations system.
Languages:
Expert knowledge of English is required. Intermediate knowledge of French would be an asset.
Additional Information:
A written test may be used for screening purposes. Other similar positions at the same level may be filled from this vacancy notice. This vacancy is published in English only. As a WHO staff member assigned solely and exclusively to support UNITAID, selected staff will have no right of reassignment or transfer outside UNITAID either during or at the end of his/her appointment, including pursuant to WHO Staff Rule 1050. (This does not apply to WHO fixed-term staff members reassigned from a non-Partnership position).
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 67'611 at single rate
USD 72'605 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
