UT/UTD UNITAID International drug purchase facility
UNITAID's mission is to contribute to the scale-up of access to treatment for HIV/AIDs, malaria and tuberculosis for people in developing countries by leveraging price reductions for quality drugs and diagnostics and accelerating the pace at which they are made available.
Description of duties:
In particular, the responsibilities of the Legal Officer shall include:
1. Providing recommendations and legal support on a wide range of legal issues, including in relation to UNITAID's grant arrangements/agreements, contractual matters, product development and licensing, intellectual property, communication initiatives, donor relations, internal and external policies.
2. Supporting the Senior Legal Officer with recommendations on the management of UNITAID's legal risks and following up as required.
3. Under the Senior Legal Officer's supervision, preparing clear draft legal documents, including legal correspondence, reports and agreements to support the implementation of UNITAID's projects and initiatives.
4. Participating and supporting the UNITAID Secretariat in high level negotiations with partners, donors and governmental agencies on a wide range of issues relating to UNITAID's mandate.
5. Assisting the Senior Legal Officer with respect to governance matters, involving in particular:
(i) advising on the application and interpretation of the UNITAID Constitution, Board Operating Procedures and other UNITAID governance instruments;
(ii) reviewing and advising on draft decisions of the Board, as well as the application and interpretation of Board decisions; and
(iii) participating in initiatives to ensure that appropriate governance mechanisms and practices are in place.
6. Assisting in the development of UNITAID's internal processes and policies (e.g. regarding confidentiality and transparency).
7. Other duties involving legal issues as required by the Senior Legal Officer.
University degree in law with an emphasis in commercial and international law subjects.

Studies in more than one legal system.
1. Ability to draft clear, legally correct agreements in English (often in areas where precedents do not exist).
2. Ability to present legally authoritative and well-reasoned opinions on complex legal questions.
3. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively as a team member and with minimal supervision.
4. Excellent negotiating, organizational and inter-personal skills.

At least 5 years varied experience as a lawyer practicing commercial, and/or public international law, whether within a law firm or legal department of a company or international organization; Experience in dealing with complex commercial and international law issues and in negotiating and drafting complicated agreements; Experience in program management and in collaborative projects with international organizations and government agencies.
Expert knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of French are required.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 56'198 at single rate
USD 60'205 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
