OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The Global Malaria Programme's key roles are to: 1) set, communicate and promote the adoption of evidence-based norms, standards, policies, technical strategies and guidelines; 2) keep independent score of global progress; 3) develop approaches for capacity-building, systems strengthening and surveillance; and, 4) identify threats to malaria control and elimination as well as new opportunities for action. To achieve these objectives requires a good understanding of the number of malaria cases and deaths in different geographical settings.
Description of duties:
1) Undertake literature reviews on:
(i) adult malaria mortality in sub-Saharan Africa,
(ii) indirect malaria mortality, and write up results.
2) Examine the consistency of fit of WHO's modelled age structure of death for malaria with that found in literature and other data sets available. Provide recommendations on adjusting model if necessary.
3) Undertake data analysis and summarize results for the World Malaria Report, Plasmodium vivax strategic plan or other SEE projects as necessary.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: University Degree* in public health, epidemiology or similar.
*For WHO staff please see e-manual III.4.1, para 220.
Desirable: Masters in public health, epidemiology or similar.
Skills:
Knowledge of malaria epidemiology, biostatistics. Ability to analyze data from household surveys. Good knowledge of computer software (Excel, Stata/SPSS/SAS).

3. Knowing and managing yourself.
Experience:
Essential: At least two years' experience of analysing data from household surveys and undertaking literature
reviews.
Desirable: Experience of undertaking burden of disease work and mathematical modelling.
Languages:
Essential: Expert knowledge of English.
Desirable: Intermediate knowledge of French.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$46,730 at single rate
US$49,821 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
