The mission of the Initiative for Vaccine Research (IVR) is to accelerate the development and optimal use of safe and effective vaccines and related technologies, especially in developing countries. IVR focuses on projects of potential high impact for infectious diseases control in accordance with the Organization disease control priorities, and with the goal of enabling Member States to take an increasing share in disease control efforts. IVR takes an active role in promoting and implementing the research agenda of the Global Vaccine Action Plan ( IVR promotes research in the areas of research and; product development, implementation research and research for policy development.
Description of duties:
Under guidance of the department's focal point on influenza vaccines, provide technical lead and coordination for a multidisciplinary project that aims to create favorable conditions for the adoption of influenza maternal immunization, by addressing barriers in relation to evidence, implementation, regulation and vaccine supply.
Assigned duties:
- On a day-to-day basis, technically and managerially implement a multi partner project in a timely and efficient manner;
- Plan, develop, commission and critically appraise evidence review and other technical reports and studies in the areas of influenza, maternal immunization and maternal and neonatal health;
- Gather and synthesize information from literature and other sources into succinct reports, and provide analysis of them;
- Plan, organize and convene technical expert consultations, synthesize conclusions and assure follow-up as needed;
- Coordinate with WHO regional offices focal points, and based on their and other technical input, lead the development of WHO technical guidance documents on immunization;
- Interact with established WHO advisory groups on immunization and their secretariat focal points as needed, and prepare sessions accordingly;
- Represent WHO in technical and policy-making fora as needed.
- Perform any other duty, as requested by the supervisor.
Advanced degree (master's or doctoral level) in medical or biological sciences.
Post-graduate training in public health.
Ability to synthesize, structure and prioritize large bodies of technical information; competency in
managing functional teams, and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent
drafting and communication skills, proven project management skills.

At least seven years of professional experience in vaccination, of which most should be at the international level and focussing on developing countries. Experience should include vaccine programme or maternal health programme implementation. Experience in international project management.
Knowledge of vaccine regulation or safety monitoring.
Expert knowledge of English.
Expert knowledge of another UN language.

$ 67 483 at single rate
$ 72 467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
