The overall objective of the action in selected districts of Ethiopia is to expand services and improve prevention, care and treatment for people with MNS disorders. The specific objectives are: to strengthen the policy, processes and instruments for providing care for people with MNS disorders; to develop and sustain the human resource capacity to deliver the basic health care package for MNS disorders; and to integrate the provision of care and services for people with MNS disorders in the primary health care system, to integrate provision of care and services for people with mental disorders and epilepsy into the primary health care system, which will ensure the substantial increase of people who will access to and seek care. In addition, to support the implementation of AFRO mental health strategy in line with the WHO and African Union Commission (AUC) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and in cooperation with the AUC Social Affairs sub commission. This will lead to the reduction of suffering in help-seekers with mental, neurological and substance use disorders in the region.

Description of duties:
Under the overall supervision of WR Ethiopia and with close supervision of DPC Cluster coordinator, the incumbent will perform the following:-
- support day-to-day programme planning and management of mental health activities;
- provide technical support to the Federal Ministry of Health of Ethiopia on the mhGAP activities in the selected districts;
- liaise with MOH, local authorities, implementing partners, WHO counterparts and consultants, and other relevant stakeholders;
- assist in building the capacity of the MOH in the different intervention strategies;
- support the implementation of AFRO mental health strategy in line with the WHO and African Union Commission (AUC) Memorandum of Understanding (MoU);
- Carry out activities related to mental health as requested by the WHO Representative.

Essential: University qualifications in clinical psychology, public health, psychiatry, mental health nursing, or social work.

Desirable: Both training in public health and mental health.

- Required to do field visit to the regions to enhance a stronger follow up on activities implemented and to liaise with relevant stakeholders at peripheral level.
- Knowledge and understanding of public mental health.

- Working knowledge of computer software, especially word processing, presentation and spread sheet applications.

Essential: At least 2 years experiences - during or after postgraduate training - in a psychosocial or mental health project or activity.

Desirable: At least 3 year experience - during or after postgraduate training - in a psychosocial or mental health project or activity, including experience in resource-poor countries.

Good English language ability (reading, writing, speaking).

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 46730 at single rate
USD 49821 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 46.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
