OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
1. To provide guidance and technical support to the National Department of Health in the development of effective epidemiological and related services on emerging and re-emerging diseases.
2. To provide technical support to the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP) of Egypt for the implementation of (IHR, 2005);
3. To assist in building surveillance and response capacity of (MOHP) in accordance with (IHR, 2005).

Purpose of the post:

To ensure public health security through strengthening communicable diseases surveillance capacities and analysis of epidemic intelligence data for epidemic forecasting and response. The implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR) 2005 activities is an essential component of the post.

Organizational Context:

Under the direct supervision of the WHO representative in Egypt and the overall guidance of Director, Department of Communicable Disease Prevention & Control, the incumbent will work in close collaboration with national health authorities. He/She will work in full coordination with relevant departments/units/other ministries and UN agencies and NGOs to achieve the objectives of the programme.

Description of duties:
1- Advise the national health authorities in the planning, organization and implementation of communicable diseases surveillance including support to outbreak investigation and response activities.
2- Help the Ministry of Health in regular self-assessment of IHR core capacities, and implement the plan of action to cover gaps identified.
3- Support the national authorities to implement the action plan of Viral Hepatitis.
4- Support the integrated vector management activities.
5- Assist in the development of an event-based surveillance system for disasters with particular emphasis on disease outbreaks and emerging diseases.
6- Assist national health authorities in the development and updating of the national preparedness plan for pandemic/avian influenza.
7- Support training in epidemiology, including the control of communicable diseases, disease surveillance and disaster preparedness.
8- Provide technical guidance to the MOHP and other competent national authorities on the development and/or revision of policy, strategy and implementation plans related to safety issues including injection safety, infection control and blood safety.
9- Support in other Public Health priorities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential:
University degree in Medicine.

Desirable:
Master's degree in public health.

Functional Skills and Knowledge:

Skills:

Ability to coordinate, plan and implement activities, conduct training, effectively monitor and analyse data and present results. Excellent inter-personal communication skills.

Knowledge:

Broad knowledge of principles, practices, methodology and techniques in public health and epidemiology, and control of communicable diseases. Special knowledge and experience in Viral Hepatitis.Broad knowledge of IHR 2005: concept and activities.
Good knowledge of WHO procedures and policies.


Experience:
Essential: At least two years' experience in public health.

Desirable:
Experience in public health with a specialization in epidemiology and control of communicable diseases.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English and Arabic
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
EGP 256043 at single rate
