To provide expertise and high-quality immunization services to all communities of the Member State, in order to reduce morbidity, mortality and disability from diseases which are preventable through the optimum use of currently available vaccines and new vaccines that become available and licensed overtime.
Description des fonctions
Under the supervision of the WHO Country Representative (WR) and the coordination of his/her team leader, the incumbent will provide technical expertise and cooperate with national health authorities as well as technical and financial partners towards the goals of polio eradication, tetanus elimination and the prevention and control of measles, paediatric bacterial meningitis, rotavirus diarrhoea and human papilloma virus related diseases including cancer of the cervix through effective surveillance systems.
1.Ensure funds for AFP and other EPI target disease surveillance are regularly made available to Ministry of Health for National and Subnational levels
2.Assist with strengthening the system for surveillance of polio and other EPI target diseases by ensuring core IDSR functions by level of the health system are implemented
3.Monitor the performance of surveillance indicators by country and sub-national levels;
4.Facilitate collaboration between surveillance and laboratory for disease surveillance and response
5.Participate in training on disease surveillance and response
6.Participate and collaborate with national authorities and other parties involved in periodic programme reviews and evaluation of the country's surveillance; Support generation and produce evidence for identifying priorities and needs for changes in national policies or strategies, develop or revise national plans of action for surveillance and response;
7.Monitor reporting of EPI coverage and disease (AFP, NNT, YF and measles) incidence by collecting and analysing data from the country, assist with data quality audit, prepare reports on progress made and disseminate feedback information to interested parties. Assist sub-regional and national EPIs staff with computerized data management skills and good practice as required;
8.Coordinate the monitoring and follow up of laboratory investigations of AFP, Measles, Hib, PBM, Rotavirus diarrhoea, Meningococcal Meningitis, Diphtheria and YF cases;
9.Coordinate the investigation of cases of AFP, NNT and outbreak of measles, YF and Diphtheria in the country, analyse reported cases and prepare report of field investigations and missions, indicating high risk groups and areas for priority interventions;
10.Prepare and facilitate the meetings of the National Polio Experts
11.Assist with the preparation of the Annual Report for the certification of polio eradication. Facilitate the meeting of the National Committee for the Certification of Polio Eradication
12.Co-facilitate National Orientation Meetings on disease surveillance and Immunization
13.Assist and facilitate sub-national Orientation Meetings on disease surveillance and Immunization
14.Participate in the planning and implementation of operational research activities supportive of poliomyelitis eradication and other EPI disease surveillance and response activities;
15.Provide supervision services to Surveillance officer assigned at sub-national level by WHO
16.Perform other duties as may be requested by the WR.
Formation :
Essential: University degree in medicine (MD) and postgraduate training in public health or epidemiology (MPH/PhD).

Desirable: Familiar with the new WHO integrated disease surveillance and response (IDSR) technical guidelines, training in EPI target diseases data management
Compétences :
. Ability to work effectively with colleagues at national and international level. Ability to design studies, analyse data and write concise reports.
Ability to effectively monitor progress, analyse data and present results
Expérience :
Essential: At least seven years Public health experience in planning, training, surveillance and implementation of EPI activities.

Desirable: Field Experience in polio eradication operational planning, implementation, supervision and evaluation would be an advantage. Experience disease surveillance. Experience with WHO in Africa would be an asset.

Langues :
Fluent in French with a good working knowledge of English.

US$ 67,483 fonctionnaire sans personnes à charge
US$ 72,467 fonctionnaire avec personnes à charge au premier degré
Ajustement de Poste: 49.1 % des montants mentionnés ci-dessus. Ce pourcentage n'a qu'une valeur indicative et peut varier, chaque mois, à la hausse ou à la baisse.
