The Epidemic Alert and Verification (EAV) officer will contribute to the strengthening of the regional capacity to timely detect, verify and rapidly assess threats of cholera and other public health events. She/he will support Member States to enhance national integrated early warning and epidemic preparedness and response systems. The main area of focus will be systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of regional data on cholera and other public health events to regularly prepare and disseminate the appropriate information products used to guide public health actions.
Description des fonctions
Under the overall supervision of the Director Disease Prevention and Control (DPC) Cluster, and direct technical supervision of the EPR regional Advisor, the incumbent will:

Maintain and share updated epidemic intelligence information on the ongoing public health events in the region through the Event Management System.
Monitor and verify epidemiological information from all sources to facilitate timely detection of cholera and other epidemic/pandemic-prone disease threats including all public health events of international concern.
Contribute to the establishment of early warning systems in Member States to detect cholera and other epidemic- and pandemic-prone diseases.
Support Member States to conduct cholera risk assessments in order to identify high risk populations and geographic areas to be targeted for appropriate interventions.
Support Member States to prepare and implement comprehensive national cholera plans, including establishment of functional multisector coordination structures.
Provide support to Regional Rapid Response and WHO/GOARN field teams during outbreak response operations and after-action-reviews, as required.
Collate cholera data/information from the countries and give regular feedback.
Prepare and disseminate monthly and quarterly bulletins on cholera and other public health emergencies and annual reports.
Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Formation :
Essential: A medical degree with a master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology or Biostatistics or a PhD in public health, epidemiology or public health informatics.

Desirable: A master's degree in health informatics would be an asset

Compétences :
Broad knowledge and understanding of theoretical and practical statistical techniques
Excellent knowledge of computer systems including creating and managing databases Strong
Knowledge of research methods and techniques
Proven ability to work with, lead, organize and manage a multi-disciplinary team.
Ability to write and present concise and elaborate epidemiological/outbreak investigation reports
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of UN System
Expérience :
Essential: A minimum of seven (7) years working experience in epidemiology/disease surveillance and control; Experience in coordinating and implementing research and development programmes for the prevention and containment of disease outbreaks.

Desirable: Experience of multi-agency networking.
Langues :
Excellent knowledge of English, French or Portuguese with good working knowledge of at least one of the other official languages.

US$ 67,395 fonctionnaire sans personnes à charge
US$ 72,373 fonctionnaire avec personnes à charge au premier degré
Ajustement de Poste: 65.3 % des montants mentionnés ci-dessus. Ce pourcentage n'a qu'une valeur indicative et peut varier, chaque mois, à la hausse ou à la baisse.
