The Technology Transfer Initiative (TTI) within the cluster of Health Systems and Innovation (HIS) works to: identify where transfer of health-related technologies to developing countries will improve access to these products and lead to improved health; and when appropriate, to promote and facilitate this technology transfer.

Description of duties:
The incumbent is responsible for:
- Coordinating and providing technical expertise to developing country partners under the Technology Transfer Programmes for Influenza Vaccines and Biotherapeutics including anti-RSV and and anti-rabies virus monoclonal antibodies.
- Coordination of the protocol development, approval and conduct of preclinical and clinical studies to be conducted by technical partners and presenting clinical packages to ERC (the WHO Ethics Review Committee) .
- Scientific coordination of WHO meetings including agenda development and report writing and dissemination.
- Preparation and monitoring of contracts; preparation of reports to donors; preparation of advocacy documents including publications and website updates.
- Investigating potential health products for which technology transfer could help address inequity and increase access.
- Representing TTI at relevant international meetings and conferences.
- To perform other duties as required.

Bachelors level university degree in biotechnology or related field.

Masters level degree in public health.
Demonstrated knowledge of development and manufacturing of biologicals including vaccines and monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). In particular, solid knowledge of influenza vaccine manufacturing and clinical development. Extensive knowledge of mAbs for rabies post exposure prophylaxis and for RSV prophylaxis. Knowledge of global biosimilar guidelines and the development at both preclinical and clinical level of biotherapeutic monoclonal antibodies for viral prophylaxis. Ability to work under tight deadlines on a results-oriented basis. Ability to work with and/or coordinate diverse groups of international stakeholders. Good project management and communication skills and ability to work as a team member. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently. Familiarity with the UN system, including knowledge of WHO country, regional and global functions. Experience in developing webpages and in in using oracle based systems.

At least 5 years of relevant international experience including working in the UN system and with partners in developing countries in the field of vaccines and biotherapeutics. Direct experience working with developing country vaccine manufactures. Experience in obtaining scientific and ethical approval of clinical trials.


Experience working in a laboratory environment an asset. Experience in organizing international scientific conferences. Experience in conducting patent searches and in claims interpretation.
Expert knowledge of English. Intermediate knowledge of French is desirable.

US$56 091 at single rate
US$60 091 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
