The Communications (COM) Group forms an integral part of the Director's Office and is responsible for the presentation of a homogeneous image of all aspects of IARC work to the scientific community, the media, and the general public.
Description of duties:
Under the supervision of the Institutional Webmaster (DIR/COM), the Information Assistant (Web) will be responsible for the following duties:

- to provide assistance with the collection of more detailed information about IARC research projects to be incorporated into the "Cancer Topics" section of the IARC website.

- to assist with the posting of podcasts to broadcast a public message after an IARC Monographs meeting.

- to assist with the data input and validation of the "Learning Resources" and "Archived Courses" web-based database tool of the Education and Training website.

- to help with the integration of web content (English and French) into the Education and Training website.

- to participate in the evaluation of information-retrieval web tools and provide help with the programming and testing of an Intranet search tool, adhering strictly to established web policies and guidelines.

- to assist with the development of an automated procedure for cleaning up obsolete Intranet files, making maintenance of the Intranet server storage much easier.

- to help with the routine procedures that ensure the integrity of the Who's Who database and publishing of the staff ID photos on the Intranet.

- to assist with the creation of web usage statistics reports using URCHIN.

- to assist with the dissemination of IARC Scientific Publications in PDF/ePUB format, specifically, though not limited to, the IARC Handbooks of Cancer Prevention series.

- to examine the features and functionalities of the Institutional repository using DSPACE and present them to COM for evaluation purposes.

- to assist with the creation of effective documentation of web applications. This involves the provision of technical documentation (project charter, programming documentation, user accounts, database table charts, site map, etc.) and a user guide manual for the research Section/Group requesting the development of the website.

- to provide backup support for the IARC Institutional Webmaster.

- to perform any other related assigments that may be required by the supervisor.
Graduation from secondary school or equivalent, and subsequent training in the field of specialization with possession of a diploma in computer science, or related field (BTS, DUT or equivalent).
Organizational skills:
Extremely organized. Ability to manage multiple tasks as assigned. Ability to demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and good follow-up skills.

Other knowledge and skills:
- Advanced technical skills in CSS, HTML, XML, JavaScript and PHP.
- Good experience in and knowledge of MySQL and Oracle database development.
- Ability to manage information, documents and databases in a user-friendly fashion and with discretion.
- Familiarity with Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Adobe Acrobat.
At least four years of experience in web development activities. Good working knowledge of web-related software and tools.

Experience in developing Oracle and Java applications an asset. Relevant experience in WHO or another UN agency an asset.
Good working knowledge of English and French.

34,098 euros at single rate
