OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The EPI team is housed within the Department of Immunization, Vaccines and Biologicals (IVB), within
the Family, Women and Children's Health Cluster (FWC). EPI itself is divided into three functional
groups: Strategic Information, Programme Operations, and Policy and Strategies - where the position
is situated.EPI's objectives, in the context of the Decade of Vaccines Global Vaccine Action Plan
(GVAP) endorsed in 2012 by the World Health Assembly, are to develop policies and strategies for
maximizing the use of vaccines of public health importance and their delivery; to support regions
and countries in acquiring the necessary skills, competence and infrastructure to implement these
policies and strategies and achieve disease control/elimination and eradication of objectives. The EPI Team works across the three priority areas: Protect: Increasing immunization impact by reaching the unreached, increasing and sustaining coverage and strengthening immunization
systems. Innovate: Introduce new vaccines and technologies, promote integrated approaches to
disease control, explore alternative delivery methods. Accelerate: Elimination of measles and
rubella, control of Meningitis A, monitoring of maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination. Polio
eradication is a focus across all priority areas.
Description of duties:
Working within the Policy and Strategies Group within EPI the incumbent will focus on the
following duties: Vaccine pricing and procurement: Coordinate implementation phase of the Vaccine
Product Price and Procurement (V3P) project to enhance vaccine price transparency and provide
improved knowledge and understanding of vaccine markets, pricing and procurement to GAVI
graduating and Middle Income Countries (MIC). Explore and establish ways to resource and
maintain the outputs and activities achieved under the V3P project beyond the project term. Support
regional offices and initiatives considering vaccine procurement system strengthening and/or
implementing pooled vaccine procurement. Work with key partners to identify and monitor vaccine
price indicators for the GVAP and to report to SAGE and the World Health Assembly. GAVI Graduating countries: Work with GAVI, WHO regional offices and partners on graduating countries
transitioning particularly in relation to immunization decision making process, vaccine supply and
procurement issues.Middle income countries: Serving as secretariat for the SAGE MIC Policy and
Strategy Task Team to coordinate and facilitate activities in relation to enhancing new vaccine
introduction in middle income countries. Provide policy advice and technical assistance on vaccine
supply, pricing and procurement, as requested, to WHO headquarters, WHO regional offices and
countries. Any other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Advanced degree in a field relevant to the position, such as project management, financial management, public health, medicine or science.
Skills:
Proven ability to lead and manage projects. Ability to interact with a broad range of partners.
Excellent knowledge of immunization programmes, vaccine supply and procurement.Ability to
analyze and present data. Strong oral and written communication skills. Good inter-personal skills
and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Experience:
* Essential
Over 7 years' experience in project management, medecine and/or vaccine supply and procurement at a national and international level. Experience in working with UN agencies, GAVI Alliance, Global Health Initiatives and developing countries. Field experience in working with industry and on pharmaceutical products and vaccine procurement
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English with a working knowledge of French.

US$67483 at single rate
US$72467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
