OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
UNITAID's mission is to increase access to medicines, diagnostics and preventative items used in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria in developing countries. UNITAID's novel approach is to utilize market interventions to improve public health. In so doing, UNITAID aims to promote healthy, dynamic market conditions whereby manufacturers have incentives to invest and innovate, while at the same time supply quality public health products at affordable prices and in acceptable formulations that enable the maximum number of people to access them. By working through markets, UNITAID's interventions impact not only those countries receiving direct UNITAID support, but also other countries and organisations that can benefit from UNITAID's global price reductions, improvements in product quality, and innovation. In all cases, UNITAID seeks to find innovative, cost-effective and sustainable market solutions to public health problems.
Description of duties:
In this role, the analyst will oversee all analytic work conducted and commissioned by the Market Dynamics Unit. Specific duties include:
1. Conduct ongoing market analyses to quantify trends in public health needs, market dynamics, and market shortcomings for products used in HIV, TB, and malaria;
2. Support proposal development and assessment activities pertaining to proponents claims of market and public health impact;
3. Provide input to the UNITAID Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) team on market indicators to use in project M&E plans;
4. Provide input to the UNITAID M&E team, as needed, on design of project evaluations and organizational key performs indicators;
5. Design, develop, and run analytic models to estimate the market and public health impact of UNITAID's interventions ex-ante and ex-post;
6. Identify and engage new and existing academic experts to provide guidance and services on analytic modeling, impact assessment, market mapping, econometric analyses, and organizational economics;
7. Conduct regular systemic and grey literature reviews on econometric and other analytic methods to estimate market and public health impact to inform UNITAID's own analytic efforts;
8. Coordinate and collaborate with key global health stakeholders engaged in similar market and public health analytics;
9. Support the Technical Officer, Market Intelligence Information in activities to develop, maintain, and use the UNITAID Market Intelligence System;
10. Participate in the development and delivery of training sessions and in-services on market analytics and impact assessment;
11. Contribute to the development of landscape reports as well as Committee and Board documents;
12. Draft and edit reports, briefs, talking points, peer-reviewed publications, and oral presentations;
13. Represent UNITAID at key meetings and events related to market dynamics;
14. Perform any other activities as required by the Coordinator of Market Dynamics.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential
Advanced university degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, mathematics, economics, or related discipline.
Desirable
Advanced university degree in business, marketing, management, or related discipline.
Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a small team to deliver high impact results
- Demonstrated ability to independently use statistical analysis software.

Experience:
Essential
At least 7 years of experience in independently developing analytic data sets and writing analytic programs with analytic software (e.g., STATA, SAS, SPSS, etc.) in the field of health; Experience developing epidemiological or econometric methods to evaluate the impact of health interventions; Documented experience in technical or scientific writing.
Desirable
Experience working in the private sector pharmaceutical or diagnostics industry. Experience in HIV, tuberculosis, or malaria. Experience in market research. Experience in drafting and publishing peer-reviewed articles.
Languages:
Expert knowledge of English required. Intermediate knowledge of French would be an asset.

A written test may be used for screening purposes. Other similar positions at the same level may be filled from this vacancy notice. This vacancy is published in English only. As a WHO staff member assigned solely and exclusively to support UNITAID, selected staff will have no right of reassignment or transfer outside UNITAID either during or at the end of his/her appointment, including pursuant to WHO Staff Rule 1050. (This does not apply to WHO fixed-term staff members reassigned from a non-Partnership position).
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 67'395 at single rate
USD 72'373 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
