OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The WHO Guidelines Review Committee (GRC) was established to develop and implement standards and procedures for guideline development to ensure that WHO guidelines are consistent with internationally-accepted best practices, including the appropriate use of evidence. The GRC Secretariat is located in WHO Press, which coordinates WHO standard-setting for publishing activities through the Publishing Policy Coordination group.
Description of duties:
In collaboration with WHO Press, the Guidelines Review Committee and the Publishing Policy Coordination Group, the incumbent advises departments implementing WHO's publishing guidance; including that relevant to the development of evidence-based guidelines as described in the WHO manual and guideline handbook. In collaboration with colleagues in performance management and learning, the incumbent will develop training materials and coordinate courses tailored to the needs of WHO staff involved in guideline development.The incumbent will coordinate regional offices' assessment of the training needs of their technical staff and adapting training materials in accordance with these needs. In collaboration with WHO Press, the incumbent will develop and manage a database of GRC submissions and other publications under review and oversee the compilation of annual reports on GRC activities.The incumbent will facilitate the work of the GRC by managing the relevant intranet page, ensuring accurate scheduling, functional teleconferences, reporting of its decisions and timely circulation of monthly minutes and ad hoc reports as the GRC Chair requires.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential
Advanced university degree in public health, medicine, health technology or other relevant subject.
Skills:
Comprehensive understanding of the methodological issues relevant to evidence-based decision making, critical appraisal and scientific peer review. Excellent knowledge of health policy and systems research issues. Sound knowledge of theory, principles, methods and techniques related to evidence-based medicine, systematic reviews and health intervention guidelines. An established publication record in health sciences and expert writing and editing skills in the English language. Expert skills in managing collaborations, developing and managing committee systems and structures for peer review and training; knowledge of WHO's procedures and processes. Competency in biostatistics and/or economic evaluation. Familiarity with the development of online learning tools.

Experience:
Essential
A minimum of 7 years experience at national and international level, at progressively responsible positions in the field of medical publishing, evidence-based guideline development, health technology assessment, or national health guideline agencies. An established publication record in health sciences.
Desirable
Documented experience in the development of adult learning materials and in delivering for professional development training. Professional experience in developing and managing committee systems and structures.
Languages:
Expert knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of French are required. Intermediate knowledge of another UN language would be an asset.
Additional Information:
The following priority order will be observed in the screening of candidates: 1. WHO staff members (Continuing, Fixed-term and Temporary appointments), 2. External candidates. Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 67'395 at single rate
USD 72'373 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
