OBJECTIFS DU PROGRAMME
Develop, coordinate and evaluate the Region's need for of well balanced health research systems aimed at achieving the optimum level of health in an integrated and equitable manner;
Promote partnership between WHO AFRO and research initiatives and actors in the Region, facilitating coordinated support to Member States;
Provide guidance and support in the preparation and editing of WHO technical publications and statutory documents in the Region, ensuring adherence to global organizational publication norms and standards;
Strengthen the capacity of Librarians and health information specialists; facilitate networking among health librarires and information centres in the African Region, as well as health knowledge sharing.
Description des fonctions
Under the supervision of the Programme Area Coordinator, RPL, the incumbent will be expected to perform the following duties:

1.Provide reliable and appropriate library, research and information service to AFRO staff members and the staff of WHO Country Offices in the region, using the latest information technologies;

2.Advise Ministries of Health in the Region in the area of health documentation services infrastructure suitable for their work and offer training for librarians;

3.Support and strengthen health information networks in the Region such as the Association of Health Information and Libraries in Africa (AHILA);

4.Provide the necessary central infrastructure to comply, and disseminate the African Index Medicus offering training for partners at national level;

5.Promote the WHO Library Service within the Region in order to improve health libraries, documentation centres and literature services at country level;

6.Collaborate with other WHO librarians on global activities;

7.Advise the Director of Health Systems Strengthening on strategies to meet the objectives of the Programme;

8.Perform any other duty assigned by the Director of Health Systems Strengthening, the Assistant Regional Director or the Regional Director
QUALIFICATIONS REQUISES
Formation :
Essential: University degree in librarianship or in a related field. For WHO staff only, equivalent professional training of self-study/work experience.
Desirable: A relevant post-graduate qualification and/or Specialization in health librarianship.
Compétences :
Good management, communications, public relations and interpersonal skills. Thorough knowledge of: WHO and/or the UN Library/information systems at global, regional and national levels; and the principles, techniques and practices of information sharing. Ability to establish and maintain partnerships at national and international levels; and work in a multi-disciplinary and cultural environment. Experience in planning/organizing training. Knowledge in WHO procedures
Expérience :
Essential: At least 5 years' experience in librarianship and the management of library and information services within a large and complex organization.
Desirable: Experience in developing countries or within WHO or other national, international or multinational Organizations
Langues :
Excellent knowledge of English or French with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of Portuguese language would be an asset

US$ 56,091 fonctionnaire sans personnes à charge
US$ 60,091 fonctionnaire avec personnes à charge au premier degré
Ajustement de Poste: 65.3 % des montants mentionnés ci-dessus. Ce pourcentage n'a qu'une valeur indicative et peut varier, chaque mois, à la hausse ou à la baisse.
