HQ/NTD Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases (HQ/NTD)
The prevention, control, elimination and eradication of the infectious diseases through:
(1) planning and technical guidance of programmes including propagation of standards and indicators for epidemiological assessment of prevention and control measures;
(2) service delivery strengthening (country support);
(3) strategy development and monitoring for eradication and elimination for selective NTD;
(4) strategy development and monitoring for other NTDs, as well as the promotion of operational research and training directly related to their control needs;
(5) strategy development and monitoring of vector control;
(6) social mobilization and training for prevention, control, elimination and eradication of NTDs ;
(7) international coordination in prevention, control,
elimination and eradication of NTDs.
Description of duties:
1. Strategic and Technical Direction
a. Leading and directing the strategic and technical work of WHO in the field of NTD prevention, control, elimination and eradication, including development and promotion of strategies for prevention, control , elimination and eradication; norms and standards; policy guidelines; information; research priorities; monitoring progress towards the Roadmap and other related NTD control targets and surveillance.
b. Planning, budgeting and reporting on the work of the NTD, in line with the General Program of Work and Programme Budget
c. Provide expert technical and strategic advice on NTD to the Director-General, Regional Directors and Member States, as well as relevant partners, including technical support in planning, implementing and evaluating country programmes.
2. Resource Mobilization and Management
a. Mobilizing resources for WHO work in NTD
b. Managing the human and financial resources of the NTD area of work in accordance with WHO policies.
c. Managing the activities and delivering the expected outputs of the NTD in accordance with the approved work plan and expected outputs.
3. Relations with partners and stakeholders and Coordination.
a. Coordination with WHO regional and country offices and other clusters and departments of WHO HQ to deliver on the Organization's NTD-related goals and milestones in line with WHA resolution 66.12 and the NTD road map
b. Building and sustaining effective collaboration with other key stakeholders working towards the targets and goals of NTD prevention control, elimination and eradication in line with WHA resolution 66.12 and the NTD road map.
Undergraduate degree in Medicine or Veterinary Medicine and Postgraduate qualification in public health, tropical medicine, parasitic diseases or related fields.
Formal training of financial and human resource management.
1. Deep knowledge and technical expertise on the 17 main tropical diseases within the present WHO NTD portfolio and in their prevention, control, elimination and eradication.
2. Leadership skills in the planning and coordination of multidisciplinary public health programmes, including the implementation of disease control programmes.
3. Management skills and experience in managing people and financial resources.
4. Ability to engage and communicate effectively with media, member states, and partners.
5. Commitment to collaborate effectively with other key partners in NTD prevention control, elimination and eradication.

Over 10 years of leadership and management (planning, implementation and coordination) experience in the public health programmes at national and international level.
At least 5 years experience in:
- leading national or international disease control programmes, particularly tropical and parasitic diseases, prevention, control, elimination and eradication programmes or other communicable diseases disease control programmes.
- developing, directing and leading a multidisciplinary team - managing its financial, in-kind ( medicine ) and human resources
-promotion of activities and resource mobilization with the international donor community including other UN agencies, bilateral development organizations, NGOs, foundations and the private sector, particularly the pharmaceutical industry
- diversity of geographical location, sectors to work for (private, public sector, etc ) or organizational hierarchy ( HQ, regional office or country office)
Expert knowledge of English required. Intermediate knowledge of French would be an asset. Knowledge of another UN official language is an asset.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
102981 USD at single rate
112096 USD with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
