Section of Molecular Pathology (MPA)
One of the objectives of the Molecular Pathology Section is to edit and publish the WHO
Classification of Tumours series (WHO Blue Books), the objectives of which are to establish a
pathological and genetic classification and grading human tumours that is accepted and used worldwide.
Description of duties:
Under the supervision of the MPA Section Head, the incumbent provides informatics support to the Section Head, volume editors and contributors of the WHO Blue Books, by:

1/ Managing databases related to production of WHO Blue Books (File Maker Pro, Reference Manager)

2/ Maintaining and improving the online submission system using php/MySQL.

3/ Providing technical support to contributors regarding the use of the online submission system, and ensuring contributions received via the online submission system are accurate and meet technical requirements (e.g. sufficient resolution of figures, completeness of figure legends, status of selection of figures).

4/ Extracting data from the online submission system and other databases, as requested by the supervisor.

5/Communicating with contributors regarding technical matters (e.g. resolution quality of figures, copyright issues).

6/ Performing layout work to produce WHO Blue Books. This includes preparing draft layout using Quark Express, Indesign, and Photoshop, to ensure quality of figures (resolution), to redraw or improve submitted charts/figures on the basis of instructions or own initiative, to finalize layout following instructions from the Section Head and volume editors.

7/ giving instructions on computer programs and related files to new staff.

8/ Creating draft and final reference lists using Reference Manager.

9/ Preparing working materials (word documents with reference list, figures and tables submitted) and providing technical support and assistance for consensus and editorial meetings and other related meetings.

10/ Filing related documents.

11/ Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Graduation from secondary school with scientific orientation or equivalent, followed by subsequent specialized training in computer-related activities recognized by a diploma (BTS, DUT or equivalent) or equivalent professional experience required.
Ability to use computer programs such as Word, Excel, File Maker Pro, Reference Manager, Powerpoint, Photoshop, Quark Express, InDesign and php/MySQL.
Knowledge of basic electronic computing, word processing, internet.
At least two years of relevant professional experience in computer-related activities, including experience in managing databases.
Good knowledge of English or French, with a working knowledge of the other.
Additional Information:
This recruitment is restricted to candidates residing up to a maximum of 50 kms from Lyons.

Salary: per annum Euro 31,413, net of tax.
