OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The Global Malaria Programme's key roles are to 1) Set, communicate and promote the adoption of
evidence-based norms, standards, policies and guidelines; 2) Keep independent score of global
progress; 3) Develop approaches for capacity-building, systems strengthening and surveillance; and 4) Identify threats to malaria control and elimination as well as new opportunities for action. RAcE 2015 objective is to catalyse the scale up of integrated Community Case Management of Malaria (iCCM), which includes the treatment of pneumonia and diarrhea as an integral part of government
health services in sub-Saharan Africa. The goal is to assist countries with the highest mortality
burden to increase coverage of diagnostic testing, treatment, and referral services for these major causes of childhood mortality and, therefore, accelerate achievement of the health-related Millennium Development Goals.
Description of duties:
1. Support the RAcE 2015 Team Leader in the implementation of the RAcE 2015 workplan,
including supervision of grantees in collaboration with WHO/AFRO and production of donor
reports.
2. Supervise project implementation by grantees funded by GMP in accordance with the contractual PMF and annual workplan.
3. Identify potential implementation bottlenecks and
develop solutions to overcome them as appropriate.
4. Collaborate with grantees to ensure appropriate reporting, and assist in the collection of data according to specific indicators.
5. Prepare periodic reports to the donor as per GMP's contractual reporting schedule.
6. Assist the RAcE 2015 Team Leader in the
management of the various committees related to the project (Project Review Panel, International
Steering Group, etc.), including the preparation of the relevant documentation for the selection of
the grantees and meeting minutes and reports.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
* Essential:
Postgraduate degree in public health and/or management.
Skills:
Demonstrated knowledge of the iCCM strategy; demonstrated experience in supervising Civil
Society Organizations implementing iCCM programs in the context of government-provided health
services in sub-Saharan Africa; demonstrated knowledge of monitoring and evaluation including
data collection, analysis and evaluation; ability and experience in programme management and
report writing. Demonstrated knowledge of monitoring approaches and systems as related to iCCM with emphasis on prevention and control interventions, complemented by skills in the field of
statistical data collection, assessment, analysis and the evaluation and monitoring in a public health
context. Ability to conceptualize and promote innovative strategies and policies. Ability to
communicate and write English in a clear and concise manner. Knowledge of spoken French
allowing to interact with Francophone grantees.

Experience:
* Essential:
At least 7 years' experience in public health programmes including in sub-Saharan Africa, with at least five years in community-based programmes; extensive experience in monitoring and evaluation of public health programmes; experience in engagement with donors . Sufficient
experience in working for or with WHO to have knowledge of its mandate, goals and work in the
field of malaria and/or child health.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English with a good working knowledge of French required.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$67 483 at single rate
US$72 467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
