UNITAID's mission is to conduct market interventions that promote access to products used in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in developing countries. UNITAID aims to promote healthy, dynamic market conditions whereby manufacturers have incentives to invest and innovate, while at the same time supply quality public health products at affordable prices and in acceptable formulations that enable the maximum number of people to access them.
Description of duties:
In this role, the Manager will:
- Identify new strategic opportunities for UNITAID to develop or implement new market-based approaches to improve public health;
- Lead and manage work to develop, maintain and use UNITAID's market intelligence system(s) to identify new opportunities and assess the impact of past interventions;
- Oversee and manage all analytic activities commissioned and/or conducted by the Market Dynamics team;
- Provide technical input, as needed, to all potential and current projects involving new product development and research;
- In collaboration with the Communications Team, coordinate and supervise all activities related to information management, technical event planning and dissemination of reports, briefs, talking points, peer-reviewed publications, oral presentations and other products created or commissioned by the Market Dynamics team;
- In collaboration with the UNITAID Finance and Administration team, proactively manage the Market Dynamics team work plan and budget, including the contracting of consultants and hiring of staff, as needed;
- In collaboration with the other Manager, Market Dynamics, develop and implement processes to ensure activities within the Market Dynamics team are streamlined and coordinated;
- Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders representing donors, international organizations, industry, civil society, multilateral and nongovernmental organizations;
- Participate in the process to screen Letters of Intent and support the proposal development of new potential projects;
- Contribute to on-going development and updating of UNITAID landscape analyses;
- At the request of the Coordinator of Market Dynamics, attend and participate in meetings and conferences and other events on behalf of UNITAID;
- Perform any other activities as required by the Coordinator of Market Dynamics.
Advanced university degree in business, pharmacy, medicine, public health or related discipline.
Diploma or certificate in clinical trials, new product development or organizational management.

- Strong content knowledge of new product development (e.g., medicines and/or diagnostics)
- Demonstrated ability to manage external consultants, contractors and experts and to leverage input into reports, strategies and other documents
- Demonstrated ability to work individually and as part of a team to deliver high impact results
- Strong interpersonal skills, tact, discretion and mature judgment
- At least an intermediate familiarity with the market dynamics (e.g. trends for key products, key barriers to access and affordability, etc.) for HIV, TB and malaria commodities, and for HIV diagnostics in particular
- Understanding of UNITAID, including its mission, strategy, key publications and portfolio of projects.

At least 10 years of management experience in the area of global health. At least 5 years of experience in managing analyses of medicines and/or diagnostics global markets, including pricing and health technology assessment. At least 5 years of experience in development and implementation of global strategies. Experience in the design of clinical trials.
Experience in the private pharmaceuticals or diagnostics sector. Experience in private sector consulting. Experience in business development. Experience in identifying, quantifying, and addressing market issues that limit access to products used in HIV, TB, and malaria.
Expert knowledge of English is required. Intermediate knowledge of French is desirable.

A written test may be used for screening purposes. Other similar positions at the same level may be filled from this vacancy notice. This vacancy is published in English only. As a WHO staff member assigned solely and exclusively to support UNITAID, selected staff will have no right of reassignment or transfer outside UNITAID either during or at the end of his/her appointment, including pursuant to WHO Staff Rule 1050. (This does not apply to WHO fixed-term staff members reassigned from a non-Partnership position).
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 80'629 at single rate
USD 86'791 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
