The Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) is a global health partnership of international organizations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, partner countries, donors and foundations, health care professional organizations and academic, research and training institutions ("Partners") who have a shared interest in, and commitment to, the achievement of the maternal and child health-related Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5("MDGs"). Countdown represents one of the projects which is part of the PMNCH work plan. The Countdown Secretariat is therefore part of the PMNCH Secretariat. Countdown is an initiative aimed at tracking the progress towards achieving Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5, in 74 priority countries. It summarizes, synthesizes, and disseminates country level progress, and engages policy makers by advocating for MDGs 4 and 5. To this end, the Countdown aims to:
1. Track country-level coverage for interventions proven to reduce maternal, newborn and child mortality and associated indicators for: a. Policies and health system strength; b. Financial flows; c. Equity
2. Analyze country-level trends and recommend actions to accelerate progress.
3. Identify knowledge and data gaps across the Continuum of Care for reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health (RMNCH).
4. Promote accountability for progress and action Countdown is composed of a wide range of constituencies including : UN organizations, academic institutions, non governmental organizations and civil society organizations. It therefore draws on a rich variety of individuals with a wide skill set/expertise such as: academics / scientists, policymakers, public health workers, communications experts.
Description of duties:
Assigned Duties:
The Project Officer will undertaken the following tasks: Assist with linking the country level activities (the country Countdowns with the in-depth case studies) and liasing with A Promise Renewed, African Leaders Malaria Alliance Scorecard and WHO, particularly those involved in the road map process. Keep the country matrix up to date on where activities are taking place and progress with activities. Track action points and key decisions requiring follow up for the country level work. Assist with developing contracts and writing progress reports to donors on the country level activities. Coordinate with the PMNCH Finance and Administrative Officer, procurment related activities of Countdown to 2015 sub groups. Prepare minutes of country level working group calls
and ensure follow-up of action points, preparing agendas and drafting of background papers for timely distribution to participants. Assist the Countdown manager in workplanning and tracking overall progress of the Countdown to 2015 project. Other duties as required.
University degree in Business Administration or other field relevant to the post. *For WHO staff please see e-manual III.4.1, para 220.
Masters degree in Business Administration or other field relevant to the post.
Professional experience at international level in administration and finance. Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of issues related to reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health. Excellent computer skills and ability to use web-based applications.

At least 5 years of experience in project management.
Project management experience in the field of health.
Expert knowledge of English required.

As a WHO staff member assigned solely and exclusively to support the NMC Partnership, selected staff will have no right of reassignment or transfer outside the NMC Partnership either during or at the end of his/her appointment, including pursuant to WHO Staff Rule 1050. (This does not apply to WHO fixed-term staff members reassigned from a non-Partnership position).
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 56091 at single rate
USD 60091 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
