OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To provide technical and strategic support to strengthen national and regional capacity to protect all people at risk against vaccine-preventable diseases through advocacy, partnership, preparedness for emerging disease threats, and formulation of evidence-based strategies for vaccination policy. In so doing, promotes, coordinates and implements technical cooperation activities that emphasize the central role of family and the community to foster a culture of health promotion and protection where health becomes a social value. The work of the immunization program is guided by the principles of access and equity, disease control, and development of public health infrastructure in the context of introducing new technologies and achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
Description of duties:
Under the general supervision of the Manager, Family and Community Health (FCH) and the direct supervision of the Senior Advisor, Comprehensive Family Immunization (FCH/IM), the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited, to the following assigned duties:

a) Provide technical support for the implementation of the ProVac Initiative to strengthen national capacity for new vaccines introduction;
b) Provide technical support for capacity building for evidence-based policy development; assist country teams in performing national-level cost-effectiveness analyses on new vaccines and other economic evaluations;
c) Generate training tools and exercises for ProVac meetings and regional workshops;
d) Foster collaboration between the ProVac Team and Partners in designing impact evaluations of new vaccines post-introduction;
e) Support the activities of the Network of ProVac Centers of Excellence; provide technical support to the Network of ProVac Centers of Excellence in the development of standardized methodological guidelines;
f) Identify and propose regional strategies to strengthen and establish national immunization technical advisory groups (NITAGs) with the aim of promoting evidence-based decisions for new vaccine introduction;
g) Support countries in the development and use of economic evidence to inform cervical cancer prevention and control policies, including decisions about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and cervical cancer screening strategies;
h) Support the development and monitoring of regional indicators to evaluate progress in the Region within the framework of the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP);
i) Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
A bachelor's degree in a health or social science, public policy or related field from a recognized university.

Technical Expertise

IT Skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook. Other IT skills and knowledge of other software programs such as Visio and Project would be an asset.
Experience:
Five years of combined national and international experience in supporting project management of public health related programs.
Languages:
Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.

PAHO offers an attractive compensation package including an annual net salary (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), dependency benefits, pension plan, health insurance scheme, and 30 days annual leave. Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$ 46,730.00 at single rate
US$ 49,821.00 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 50.1 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
