OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
Purpose of the Post:
To support the Government of South Sudan Ministry of Health and the State Ministries of Health to strengthen and provide anaesthetic services for emergency surgical, obstetrics and newborn care within the secondary health care level facilities in South Sudan.

Objectives of the Programme:

To contribute to the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality in South Sudan by increasing availability and access to anaesthetic services for comprehensive emergency obstetrics and newborn care.

Organizational Context (Describe the work environment; the role of the individual within the team - team member, specialist, adviser, facilitator, coordinator/manager, representative, expert, authority in the field, etc.; available guidelines and degree of independence in decision making; and nature and purpose of contact within and outside the Organization):
Under the direct supervision of the Medical Officer of Making Pregnancy Safer and overall supervision of the Head of Office, the incumbent will work closely with the Ministry of Health towards strengthening the availability of and access to anaesthetic services for comprehensive emergency obstetrics and newborn care (CEMONC) services within the targeted hospitals in South Sudan.

Description of duties:
Summary of Assigned Duties:
In close collaboration with the Technical Officer (Obstetrician and Gynaecologist), the incumbent will perform the following duties:
1. Provide technical assistance and develop Standard Operating procedures manuals for the surgical and operational case management of patients including those for assessment of patients and provision of stabilizing care, carry-out pre-operative care and administration of anesthesia for patients, and post-operative monitoring.
2. Conduct on-the-job skills training, coaching and mentoring for Anesthetic Assistants, Clinical Officers, Theatre Nurses, in the targeted hospital.
3. Promote hospital compliance with universal safety precautions and infection control standards.
4. Support the hospital in improving organization, management and rational use of anesthetics and consumables.
5. Support the hospital in establishing management supervisory and monitoring tools and systems.
6. Maintain constant coordination with the State Hospital, support the Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, in addressing project-related issues.
7. Prepare, analyse and submit timely, correct and complete reports (weekly and monthly hospital reports, indicators monitoring report, etc.).

Essential: University degree in Medicine with diploma in Anaesthesiology.

Experience:
Experience:
Essential: At least 5 years of work experience in the area of Anaesthesiology; both in clinical practice and in training management.
Desirable: Working experience in complex emergencies situations.

Excellent knowledge of English

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$56091 at single rate
US$60091 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 53.2 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
