General Services Operations (GSO)
 
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
General Services Operations provides building and office services at Headquarters in support of PAHO/WHO programs, such as general supervision of acquisition and maintenance of all PAHO/WHO premises at Headquarters and in the Field. Responsible for building facilities and maintenance, inventories, office supplies and equipment, transportation, security and safety, printing reproductions, conferences, interpreters; security focal point within PAHO and the UN security system.
Description of duties:
Under the general supervision of the General Services Support Specialist, General Services Operations (GSO/GS), and the direct supervision of the Electronics Technician II, GSO/GS, the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following duties:

a) Provide support for the installation and operation of various electronic and audio-visual equipment in conference and meeting rooms, including video projectors used in connection with personal computers to project video graphics, as well as solving computer related difficulties;
b) Install and operate the videoconference equipment through the GPN or the ISDN lines, initiate multi-point or point to point videoconferences according to schedule; assist staff during videoconferences;
c) Set up conference equipment, supplies and other related items for all meetings held at Headquarters; prepare announcement boards for meetings; maintain the computerized board system;
d) Provide audio-visual and computer support for all meetings held in the formal conference rooms; ensure that microphones and audio system is available and working properly, as well as computers set up, including connection to projector's data interface equipment; assist staff with the installation of presentations, etc.;
e) Operate the audio-interpretation systems and record meetings; assist the Electronics Technician in troubleshooting and repair audio-interpretation system problems;
f) Perform preventive maintenance of sound and video equipment and PC projectors, and repair equipment as assigned;
g) Install and remove the Portable Digital Audio Interpretation Equipment, when required;
h) Maintain an inventory of all electronic equipment and materials assigned to the Area; report periodically on their status;
i) Works as a team member in the absence of other staff;
j) Perform other related duties, as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: High school diploma for formal training in the commercial or administrative field.

Desirable: Certification of training in the use of audiovisual equipment or portable sound/video system would be an asset.

Technical Expertise

- Ability to install, operate and tune moderately complex electronic equipment used in conferences, including, for example, data display units, sound equalizers, computerized microphone systems, amplifiers, wire less systems, analog microphones to PA system, etc.
- Ability to connect Laptops and PCs to Video Interface devices and projectors for presentations.
- Ability to use software designed for PC presentations, including video in different formats, software, etc.
- Ability to assemble auxiliary electronic devices which are needed to connect the various electronic hardware and system.
- Training and experience in the use, operation and programming of professional interpretation and audio equipment such as DIS (Danish Interpretation System) and BRAHLER (Professional Interpretation equipment) and basic knowledge of the software.
- Ability to write and organize routine and non-routine correspondence and reports.

IT Skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Proficiency in the use of computer software in accordance with the technology used in the Digital Audio and Interpretation equipment such as Conference Management Software, Conference Administration Application, Conference User Application and Conference Display Application.
Experience:
Five years of experience in conference services involving the installation, maintenance and operation of electronic and computerized audiovisual equipment.
Languages:
Very good knowledge of English and Spanish.
