OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
To enhance the capacity of countries and areas in the Region to develop and implement effective policies and actions on environmental health.
Description of duties:
(1) to provide technical support to countries and WHO offices in the Region in areas such as environmental health impact assessment, climate change and health and other areas of the programme on environmental, as appropriate;

(2) to support WHO country staff, Member States, nongovernmental organizations, international partner agencies and other organizations in the development and implementation of the National Environmental Health Action Plans to resolve priority environmental health issues;

(3) to collaborate with the Chairs and Members of the Thematic Working Groups of the Regional Forum on Environment and Health in implementing their workplans; and

(4) to assist in the preparation and implementation of meetings, particularly those associated with the Regional Forum on Environment and Health in South-East and East Asian countries.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Postgraduate degree in medical sciences or public health or environmental science or engineering, from a recognized university is essential. Training in environmental health an advantage.
Skills:
Broad knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in environmental health and health promotion; ability to plan, develop, implement and promote environmental health and health promotion-related activities and projects; computer literacy in standard office applications; ability to communicate effectively and work harmoniously as a member of a team in an outcome-oriented manner with national and international colleagues of different educational and cultural backgrounds; and ability to maintain a high standard of personal conduct.

Competencies:
1. Communicating in a credible and effective way.

2. Producing results.

3. Fostering integration and teamwork.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of experience in planning and implementing projects, plans, programmes and applied studies in relation to environmental health and health promotion is essential. Considerable experience at the international level, including substantial work in relation to developing countries; working experience in developing countries highly desirable.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English and good ability to communicate effectively in a cross-cultural setting.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD67 483 at single rate
USD72 467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 61.20 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
