OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The mission of the Initiative for Vaccine Research (IVR) is to accelerate the development and optimal use of safe and effective vaccines and related technologies, especially in developing countries. IVR focuses on projects of potential high impact for infectious diseases control in accordance with the Organization's disease control priorities, and with the goal of enabling Member States to take an increasing share in disease control efforts. IVR works according to four strategic functions, including:
1. research prioritization,
2. capacity building,
3. development of standards and
4. translational research.
The position is particularly related to strategic functions 1 and 4.
Description of duties:
The incumbent's main duties are as follows:
1. Under the guidance of measles/rubella aerosol vaccine (MPA) focal point:
* assist in the technical preparation, coordination and follow-up of the MAP international advisory groups;
* assist in the development of study protocols and operational documents;
* assist in coordinating and monitoring implementation of studies efforts;
* assist in monitoring the implementation of work plan and analysis of results;
* support the administrative coordination of the project.
2. Under the guidance of the focal point on the immunization schedules project:
* assist in the planning and review of commissioned research studies;
* support the preparation of technical reports for expert meetings;
* assist in monitoring the implementation of work plan and analysis of results;
* support the administrative coordination of the project.
3. Under the guidance of the Group Leader, HVI, provide support to the implementation of WHO's participation in the EC-ADITEC (Advanced Immunization Technologies) collaborative project:
* assist in the identification and selection of experts for the preparation of White Papers.
4. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisors.
Achievement activities include: regular and active participation in relevant working groups, meetings and fora involving various research groups, partner organizations and ministry of health delegates; compilation of reports and analysis on projects activities, acquire and share information with technical teams and regional offices on activities with external partners; raise visibility of IVR Unit.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential
University degree including specialized training in public health or epidemiology.
Desirable
Training in systematic reviews of vaccines to inform health policy.

Skills:
Good knowledge of communicable diseases epidemiology and measles and rubella aerosol vaccines. Knowledge of clinical trials and vaccine development including GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and regulatory requirements. Analytical and writing skills to identify critical technical issues and prepare a variety of documents and briefing materials. Good communication skills, both oral and written and the ability to consolidate and disseminate information from multiple sources. Organizational and coordination skills. Ability to work within and contribute to a team. Computer skills in data analysis, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software for making high quality technical presentations. Ability to use and maintain web based platform for the conduct of systematic reviews. Ability to identify required expertise and experts and to organize scientific meetings and workshops would be an asset.

Experience:
Essential
At least 3 years of experience required in vaccine clinical trials implementation and management, as
well as vaccine regulatory processes and conducting and supervising systematic reviews.
Desirable
Experience in WHO or other UN agencies and in particular with the WHO management system. Experience in management of systematic reviews of vaccines.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English and French required.
Additional Information:
A written test may be used for screening purposes. Other similar positions at the same level may be filled from this vacancy notice. This vacancy is published in English only. Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 46'669 at single rate
USD 49'756 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 103.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
