OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
The objectives of the Department of Mental Health and Substance abuse (MSD) are to reduce the
burden associated with mental and neurological disorders, including substance use disorders, and to
promote mental health worldwide. The objective of the child and adolescent mental disorders
programme is to reduce the burden of mental, neurological and developmental disorders including autism in children and adolescents.
Description of duties:
1. Obtains and aggregates information on child and adolescent mental health problems and services.
2. Provides technical assistance to programmes on child and adolescent mental health for Member States based on WHO's mental health GAP Action Programme (mhGAP).
3. Plans consultation meetings and organizes evidence reviews on child and adolescent mental health.
4. Provides technical advice to the child and adolescent mental health programmes in the Regional Offices and initiates and maintains contact with the Regional Advisers.
5. Collaborates with other departments and programmes in WHO and outside WHO which are active in the area of child and adolescent mental health.
6. Contributes to the WHO revision process of International Classification of Diseases (ICD) in the area of child and adolescent mental health.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
* Essential:
University degree in psychiatry or psychology with specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry
or psychology.

Essential skills:
Demonstrated technical authority in child mental health at the international level; demonstrated
skills for development of projects, scientific and educational publications in the field; good
knowledge in evidence-based guideline development; demonstrated skills in developing
partnerhsips for child mental health initiatives and; excellent oral and written communication,
negotiational and interpersonal skills.
Experience:
At least 5 years' experience in child and adolescent mental health of which at least two years should be in low or middle income countries.
Desirable:
Work experience in developing national programmes for child and adolescent mental health.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English with a good working knowledge of French (?)
Additional Information:
Priority will be given to internal candidates.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
$ 56 091 at single rate
$ 60 091 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 100.2 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
