OBJECTIFS DU PROGRAMME
To support countries in the WHO African Region to provide high quality immunization services that will contribute to: (a) the reduction of mortality, morbidity and disability from vaccine preventable diseases through the optimum use of available and new vaccines and (b) the strengthening of national health systems as well as efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

Description des fonctions
Under the direct supervision of the PEI Programme Area Coordinator and the overall guidance of the IVD Director, the incumbent will coordinate the polio, measles, yellow fever and HPV Laboratory Networks in the African Region, while ensuring integration with other public health laboratory networks, by:

1) Coordinating quality assurance and control programmes in the Polio, Measles, Yellow Fever and Human Papillomavirus laboratory networks including laboratory accreditation and environmental surveillance;
2) Working with the global reference laboratories, contribute to the development and introduction of new laboratory technologies in the African Region;
3) Coordinating the generation of laboratory data for use by the IVD programme and national authorities for decision-making and action;
4) Coordinating the observance of bio-safety and bio-containment of infectious materials in Polio, Measles, Yellow Fever and Human Papillomavirus laboratory networks in African Region Member States;
5) Providing expert advice to the IVD programme on scientific issues related to Polio, Measles, Yellow Fever and HPV;
6) Coordinating human resource capacity building in all the network laboratories;
7) Supporting resource mobilization for laboratory network activities;
8) Any other duties assigned by the supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUISES
Formation :
Essential: Degree in human or veterinary medicine and post-graduate training in Virology/Microbiology (MSc/PhD level) or a scientist with Ph.D. in virology or microbiology.

Desirable: Laboratory bench experience and evidence of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals on the subject of virology/microbiology.

Compétences :
1) Must have a clear understanding and good knowledge of virology/microbiology laboratory management;
2) Must have bench experience and training in virology/microbiology;
3) Must be able to transfer his/her knowledge to others through workshops or bench training;
4) Must be able to clearly write scientific presentation/publications for the programme use;
5) Must be an effective team player at both national and international levels;
6) Must be an efficient and effective communicator.

Word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint, and at least one data management system (e.g. EPI INFO or Access)

Expérience :
Essential: At least 7 years' experience working in virology/microbiology laboratory at national/international level.

Desirable: Experience in training, laboratory management and setting up laboratory quality systems.

Langues :
Fluency in English or French with a working knowledge of other languages.

USD 67483 fonctionnaire sans personnes à charge
USD 72467 fonctionnaire avec personnes à charge au premier degré
Ajustement de Poste: 65.3 % des montants mentionnés ci-dessus. Ce pourcentage n'a qu'une valeur indicative et peut varier, chaque mois, à la hausse ou à la baisse.
