The objective of the programme is to protect all people at risk against vaccine-preventable diseases by accelerating innovation, ensuring quality and safety and maximizing access and links to other interventions. The objective of the team is to promote the use of biological products which meet current international norms and standards of quality and safety. The objective of the group is to: a) participate in early detection mechanisms & development of appropriate responses for immunization safety issues; b) develop and maintain a comprehensive and updated information system on immunization safety issues and use this information to inform WHO policy and ensure WHO documents are up to date; c) provide technical assistance to WHO regional offices and countries regarding the implementation of injection safety assessments, strengthening monitoring systems for adverse events following immunization and ensuring proper investigation of vaccine safety situations; d) respond to ad hoc requests for technical information on adverse events following immunization.
Description of duties:
- Organize a communication mechanism with regional offices (and priority countries) for continued management of the network operations. This includes organizing teleconferences, taking minutes and managing Workspace.
- Plan and coordinate the annual network meeting.
- Identify resources required to meet technical assistance needs for network countries in implementing their work plan and monitor progress.
- Coordinate with other WHO colleagues and departments on integrating network activities with the other activities, in particular vaccine programmatic operations work on the quality of other drugs in network countries and collaboration with the Global Programme for International Drug Monitoring.
- Coordinate network development with WHO headquarters, regional groups and country offices. Plan and disseminate public information materials, needs identification and support for technical assistance related to network operations.
Essential: Advanced degree in pharmaceutical science and Masters degree in public health.
Desirable: Master's in public health.
Knowledge of the operations of WHO and understanding of capacity building for Member States. Excellent communication skills both written and oral. Experience with website management would be an advantage. Ability to function effectively in a team setting in a cross-cultural environment. Standard Word Microsoft word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software.

Essential: At least seven years experience with health development programmes at national and international levels as well as experience with an international health organization.
Desirable: Experience in working for project management related to developing countries' capacity building in public health. Experience in pharmacovigilance for drugs or vaccines.
Excellent knowledge of English required. A working knowledge of French is desirable.

US$67,483 at single rate
US$72,467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 99.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
