Contribute to the reduction of communicable and non-communicable disease morbidity and mortality in the African region through provision of quality technical support to Member states.
To strengthen the capacity in communicable and non-communicable diseases including data management.
To implement and monitor International Health Regulations ( IHR2005).
To strengthen the capacity in public health laboratory diagnosis and networking.
To train stakeholders and contribute in operational research in the area of communicable and non-communicable disease surveillance.
To support the creation of Centers of Excellence for diseases surveillance by Member States in the region.
To foster collaboration between AFRO clusters programme and other partners institutions in scaling up Integrated Diseases Surveillance and Response (IDSR).
Description des fonctions
.Provide technical support to Member states in the assessment of training needs, elaboration of a regional training plans, strategies and standards to strengthen national disease surveillance and response systems,
Coordinate the development, adaptation and distribution of training modules on Integrated Diseases Surveillance and Response (IDSR) including International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) and other relevant training materials to the Member states in the African region,
Prepare periodic reports on the status of capacity building and training on disease surveillance and response in the region as an outcome of monitoring the implementation of training activities for the Integrated Diseases Surveillance and response including International Health Regulations (2005) in the Africa region,
Develop a database on public health training institutions, build partnership and collaboration with these institutions for capacity building of Members states as well as for relevant staff members of WHO/AFRO,
Support the introduction of integrated disease surveillance (IDSR) and international health, regulations (I2005) in the health training institutions
Assess the impact of training on the national ability to diagnose, report and respond to disease outbreaks,
Coordinate the assessment of research needs, identification of priority research areas, development and implementation of a regional research plan on disease surveillance and response in the African region in close collaboration with partners, research institutions and other programmes within WHO,
Coordinate the development and publication of research papers on integrated disease, surveillance and response in scientific journals
Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor(s).
Formation :
Medical degree with postgraduate degree in epidemiology or Public Health or Medical education.
Compétences :
Excellent knowledge on epidemiology, disease prevention and control.
Leadership skills and ability for team and collaborative work.
Demonstrated knowledge of WHO procedures and practice is also required, including close familiarity with the work of the regional office , the executive board and the World Health Assembly.
Proven ability to plan, execute, supervise, and manage training and research programme.
Strong communication and presentation skills with ability to develop innovative concepts in clear and concise manner.
Strong interpersonal and negotiating skills with ability to promote consensus and develop effective work practices, ethics diplomacy tact and courtesy.
Good interpersonal skills and proven ability to supervise
Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and effective working relations in an international environment with colleagues within and outside WHO of different national and cultural backgrounds
Ability to work under pressure
Expérience :
Essential: At least 7 years professional experience on coordinating and conducting training and Research on disease surveillance and control at the national and international levels.

Desirable: Working with UN system or WHO.

Langues :
Excellent knowledge of French or English with good working knowledge of the other language; demonstrable ability to write technical and scientific reports/pages and to deliver oral presentations.
Traitment annuel (Net d'impôts)
US$ 67,483 fonctionnaire sans personnes à charge
US$ 72,467 fonctionnaire avec personnes à charge au premier degré
Ajustement de Poste: 65.3 % des montants mentionnés ci-dessus. Ce pourcentage n'a qu'une valeur indicative et peut varier, chaque mois, à la hausse ou à la baisse.
