UNITAID's mission is to contribute to scale-up of access to treatment for HIV/AIDs, malaria and
tuberculosis for people in developing countries by leveraging price reduction for quality drugs and diagnostics and accelerating the pace at which they are made available.
Description of duties:
In this role, the Technical Officer, Market Dynamics will:
- Be the key focal point of the Market Dynamics team's HIV medicines and diagnostics functions. This includes collaboration on identifying market shortcomings and potential interventions; linking new projects and procurement practices of global health stakeholders; improving UNITAID's understanding of the global architecture to address the HIV issues; helping UNITAID play the role of thought leader in its contributions to MDAG; and representing UNITAID on cross cutting issues;
- Drive the HIV efforts undertaken by the Market Dynamics team, including landscapes for medicines, diagnostics and preventatives on-going HIV related market dynamics work;
- Guidance to proponents and market dynamics input into UNITAID HIV projects;
- Oversee the market dynamics components of special initiatives that are key to delivering on UNITAID's strategy and requested by the UNITAID board;
- Participate in the HIV portfolio team of UNITAID to optimise the design and implementation of UNITAID funded grants;
- Provide additional support to the Market Dynamics team, as needed.
Advanced university degree in business administration, pharmacy, medicine, public health, or related discipline.
Diploma or certificate in economics, supply chain management, or business studies.
Excellent analytical, planning, organizational, and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage complex multi-stakeholder projects. Strong content knowledge of disease management and key public health issues in HIV, including diagnosis. Deep familiarity with key international organizations working on HIV, TB, and malaria, especially those working in HIV. Demonstrated ability to manage external consultants, contractors and experts and to leverage input into reports, strategies, and other documents. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to deliver high impact results. Strong interpersonal skills, tact, discretion and mature judgment. Understanding of the market dynamics (e.g. trends for key products, key barriers to access and affordability, etc.) for HIV.

At least 7 years of work experience in improving access to medicines and diagnostics in developing countries in the areas of HIV, tuberculosis, or malaria with at least 5 years experience related to HIV. Prior experience and understanding of UNITAID's strategy, approach and business model. Direct experience building and managing partnerships and coalitions among international global health organizations or UN agencies (e.g. Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria; World Health Organization; UNAIDS; other UN Organizations or NGOs, etc.).
Experience working with the private pharmaceuticals or diagnostics sector. Experience in independent consulting or in other environments where performance is based on highly visible deliverables.
Excellent knowledge of English required. Working knowledge of French an asset.

As a WHO staff member assigned solely and exclusively to support UNITAID, selected staff will have no right of reassignment or transfer outside UNITAID either during or at the end of his/her appointment, including pursuant to WHO Staff Rule 1050. (This does not apply to WHO fixed-term staff members reassigned from a non-Partnership position).
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 67 395 at single rate
USD 72 373 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 99.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
