The objective of the department of Operational Support and Services is to ensure high quality, consistent and responsive managerial and administrative services to all programmes and staff in headquarters, and where relevant, to all regions and offices of WHO, and to promote an efficient and collaborative customer-oriented working environment to achieve results. The Global Conference and Training Centre, under OSS also manages and supports the delivery of Conference and Training facilities and Services for WHO.
Description of duties:
Manage and coordinate the work of the Global Conference and Training Centre activities.
Manage income and expenditure identifying the best ways to provide effective and efficient services to clients while keeping an Organization-wide perspective.
Ensure implementation of strategies and decisions in respect of the Centre's activities.
Participate in regular joint meetings with WR EMRO and HQ to establish and deliver efficient and effective common service as well as maintain and secure the premises.
Develop the unit work plans and integrate cost recovery processes into the budget and financial management of global conference, training and meeting services.
Plan and implement meeting-surveys in order to monitor service satisfaction and identification of areas of improvement, as well as monitor performance of meeting site suppliers and other related service providers.
Maintain regular contacts with all relevant or potential suppliers and stakeholders.
Provide administrative support and advise Centre-Staff on all WHO areas of responsibility.
Maintain and develop excellent working relation with national and international partners and suppliers.
Advanced level degree in business administration, conference and event management, public relations or similar.

Formal qualification or first-hand experience in managing/organizing large-scale meetings, conferences or events.
Sound knowledge of administration Rules and Regulations as well as budgetary and financial practices.
Proven organization and managerial skills.
Ability to analyse complex issues.
Ability to work under pressure.
Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary skills and multicultural environment.
Computer literacy: sound knowledge of GSM, word processing, spread sheet and presentation
software, Excel.
At least 10 years experience in management with proven experience in managing a large and varied operation, in a firm, fair and efficient manner, as well as being able to establish and maintain good working relations with clients, colleagues and companies providing external services of which at least 5 at the international level.
Sound experience in staff management, budgetary control.
Operational experience and in depth managerial knowledge of event management.

Sound knowledge of WHO administration including Rules and Regulations as well as budget and financial processes an asset.
Excellent knowledge of English or French with a working knowledge of the other language.

Working knowledge of Arabic an asset.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD 80734 at single rate
USD 86904 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 28.2 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
