Non-communicable Diseases
The objective of the Non-communicable Diseases (NCD) programme is to support countries in their efforts to address the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases to contribute to the achievement of the global targets set by their respective governments.
Description of duties:
1. Provide technical support in strengthening the capacity of countries and areas in the development and implementation of comprehensive, population-based noncommunicable disease prevention programmes with focus on specific risk factor reduction in collaboration with Member States and in accordance with WHO action plans for NCD;

2. Provide technical support for specific noncommunicable disease and nutrition surveillance and research, and dissemination of findings in the Pacific island countries and areas in collaboration with Member States, key national and international institutions and WHO collaborating centres;

3. Provide technical support to Pacific island countries and areas on health promotion initiatives including effective communication and advocacy strategies, stakeholder engagement, non-health sector action, setting-based approaches to help establish and/or strengthen in-country and regional capacity, infrastructure and resources for sustainable noncommunicable disease prevention and control;

4. Coordinate and conduct trainings in Pacific island countries (PICs) on nutrition, NCD and health promotion as required;

5. Build and maintain effective working relationships with government agencies, donors and development partners to coordinate appropriate programmatic and resource mobilization activities;

6. Ensure effective management of human and financial resources under his/her supervision; and

7. Perform other related duties as required.
University degree in health related areas and postgraduate degree in public health and/or health promotion is essential. Experience in research and epidemiology is desirable.
1. Knowledge of NCD, Nutrition and Health Promotion development and implementation at national and local levels of interventions in country;
2. Skills in programmatic development, monitoring of implementation, evaluation of its impact in country;
3. Knowledge and skills in research including complex analysis and interpretation of data for policy decision-making;
4. Negotiation and representational skills which allow coming to a common understanding of complex and often controversial issues; and
5. Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team, adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds and maintain a high standard of professional and personal conduct.

Proficiency in standard MS Office software applications. Familiarity with database applications an advantage.

Minimum of seven years in public health and/or health promotion/ NCD, including experience at international level is essential. Experience in epidemiology and research is desirable.

Annual salary: (Net of tax)
USD67 483 at single rate
USD72 467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 43.4 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
