OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
General Services Operations provides building and office services at Headquarters in support of PAHO/WHO programs such as conferences, interpreters, general supervision of acquisition and maintenance of all PAHO/WHO premises at Headquarters and in the Field. Responsible for building facilities and maintenance, inventories, office supplies and equipment, transportation, security and safety and reproduction. Serves as security focal point within the UN security system.
Description of duties:
Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Electronic Technician II (GSO/GS), and the general supervision of the General Services Specialist (GSO/GS), the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to the following duties:

a) Provide administrative support in audio-interpretation system for all internal and external technical meetings, conferences, seminars, and workshops; ensure that all needed equipment is available in the conference rooms.
b) Operate the digital audio-interpretation system installed in all HQ conference rooms, and record meetings in audio CDs accordingly.
c) For meetings with interpretation: check that all interpreters' consoles are set to the language corresponding to the interpretation booth; if they are not, reconfigure the console to the proper language.
d) For meetings with interpretation of two languages from one booth: monitor the interpreter to deliver the interpretation to the proper channel.
e) Monitor the audio interpretation equipment for over modulation caused by Elluminate. Call the electronic technician for assistance.
f) One hour prior to start of a meeting, check microphones and all earphones on the tables and pedestals of the conference room for proper position and connection to the channel selector stations.
g) For meetings with interpretation: check that all interpreters' booths have the necessary documentation and supplies.
h) Assist in installing and removing microphones in the conference rooms.
i) Install and operate the portable digital audio-interpretation equipment.
j) Perform support functions, including but not limited to: preparing signs to be placed outside meeting room and ensure that changes are made as necessary; ensure that the in-session panel is on when meetings start; maintain country delegate signs in good order and make nameplates for meetings as required.
k) Program, update and maintain the daily meeting reminder monitors, in the first and second floor lobbies.
l) Perform any other administrative support duties, as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma with formal training in the administrative or commercial field.

Technical Expertise:
- Ability to operate moderately complex electronic equipment used at conferences, including for example, computerized microphone systems, sound equalizers, amplifiers, etc.
- Ability to use software designed for PC presentations.
- Word processing in English and Spanish in accordance with established standards.

IT Skills:
Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook. Other IT skills and knowledge of other software programs such as Visio and Project will be an asset.
Experience:
Four years of experience in international conference services involving the installation and/or operation of digital or analog audio interpretation equipments.
Languages:
Very good knowledge of English and Spanish.

US $33,927. at single rate
