Title: Senior Research Assistant (Data Management & Analysis) - Local recruitment

Section of Cancer Surveillance (CSU)
Description of duties:
Under the supervision and guidance of the first-level supervisor, the incumbent is expected to provide support across CSU and in particular to the SurvMark-2 project by performing the following tasks which are in accordance with the objectives of the Section:

- Ensure consistency of data from different sources to make them optimal for analysis and presentation by adapting existing or developing new data management tools to identify data inconsistencies;
- Prepare and harmonize incidence, mortality, survival, and population data from collaborators (e.g. cancer registries, national statistical agencies etc) for descriptive analyses, reports and inclusion in scientific publications;
- Assure quality and consistency between datasets to allow cross-country comparison;
- Conduct statistical analyses of survival estimates as well as estimation of incidence and mortality rates and trends over time;
- Ensure comprehensive documentation of the processes and programming steps: data management, quality control, statistical analyses, data visualization and presentations undertaken
- Contact collaborators to resolve data inconsistencies and propose improvements to reduce future potential issues

Other related duties as assigned by supervisor as follows:
- Develop statistical programs to ensure systematic analyses of routine data;
- Develop data management system to ensure effective and secure data management to ultimately support research programmes within CSU and also collaborative research with external collaborators;
- Liaise with internal and external collaborators on specific projects to resolve data inconsistencies and propose solutions and improvements;
- Provide teaching assistance to courses or workshops in particular on survival analysis;
- Ad hoc consultancy on data quality aspects, study design and statistical methodology; preparation of analysis for reports, scientific publications or presentation.
- Provide technical guidance to CSU staff as well as Early Career and Visiting Scientists, as required.
Graduation from secondary school with scientific orientation or equivalent followed by subsequent specialized training and possesion of diploma in statistics and/or computer sciences or related discipline (BTS, DUT or equivalent).
Additional qualification in epidemiology or biostatistics (e.g. CESAM or equivalent) would be an asset.
Advanced knowledge of statistical packages such as STATA or R or equivalent for data management and analysis.
Proven ability to manage large datasets and to assure quality of their content.
Ability to fully document all procedures of data acquisition, management, analysis and presentation.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work harmoniously as a member of a team and to adapt to diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
At least five years' experience in statistical analysis and data management including descriptive epidemiologic analyses, preparing graphs, tables and maps based on the analysis of regularly collected data.
Experience in an academic or research setting would be an asset.
Very good knowledge of English is essential. Some knowledge of French would be an asset.
Additional Information:
This recruitment is restricted to candidates residing at the time of submitting their application, within a maximum distance of 50 kms from Lyon.

Annual salary: Euros 39870, net of French income tax (before deduction of the employee share of private social insurances applicable at IARC, i.e. staff health and accident insurances and pension fund).
